Veni meaning
Veni (वेणी) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, वे, it is a Vrishabh rashi name (Mrigashira nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
A braid of hair; a stream or current
Veni (वेणी) is Sanskrit veṇī, "a braid of hair", cited by Monier-Williams from the Mahābhārata and classical poetry. MW also gives the sense of a stream or current, and records Veṇī as the name of a river in the Harivaṃśa. The two senses share a picture: a long plait and a flowing stream have the same shape. The idea lives on in Triveṇī, "triple-braided", the name MW gives for the confluence at Prayāga where the Gaṅgā meets the Yamunā and the hidden Sarasvatī. In Hindi and several other Indian languages veṇī is still a familiar word for a braid. Veni is a short girl's name, and it also ends longer names such as Triveni and Krishnaveni.
