Tapti (ताप्ती) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, ता, it is a Tula rashi name (Swati nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
'warming'; daughter of the Sun, personified as the Tapti river
Also used to mean: warmth
Tapti (ताप्ती) is the name of the river that flows west across central India to the Arabian Sea at Surat. In Sanskrit the river is tāpī, and its goddess is Tapatī, "the warming one", from the root tap, "to heat". Monier-Williams records Tapatī as a daughter of the Sun by Chāyā; in the Mahābhārata she marries King Saṃvaraṇa and becomes the mother of Kuru, ancestor of the Kauravas and Pāṇḍavas. Name lists give Tapti as "river", "daughter of the sun" or "warmth", all in line with the dictionary.
