Tapasya meaning
Tapasya (तपस्या) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.
Religious austerity, devout penance
Also used to mean: meditation
Tapasya (तपस्या) is the Sanskrit tapasyā, built on tapas, a word that first meant heat and came to mean the inner heat of spiritual discipline. Monier-Williams gives tapasyā as devout austerity; the related tapasya is also an old name for the spring month Phālguna and, as Phālguna, a name of Arjuna. Name lists give Tapasya as "penance", "austerity" or "meditation", which matches the dictionary closely. In Hindi tapasyā is also an everyday word for patient, dedicated effort towards a goal.
