Conception, imagination, thought, meditation; feeling of devotion
Bhavana (भावना) is the Sanskrit bhāvanā, formed from the causative of bhū, "to be", so that its root sense is "causing to be" or "bringing into being". Monier-Williams lists among its many senses forming in the mind, conception, imagination, meditation and reflection, and also a feeling of devotion or faith. In Buddhist and Hindu practice bhāvanā is a word for cultivating the mind through meditation. In modern Hindi, McGregor's dictionary gives bhāvnā as perception and consciousness and also as feeling, mood and spirit, and that everyday sense of "feeling" is the one most Indian parents hear in the name. Name lists give Bhavana as "feeling", "meditation" or "thought", all of which have dictionary support.
