Pavithra meaning
Pavithra (पवित्रा) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin (South Indian usage).
Purifying, pure, holy, sacred, sinless
Pavithra (പവിത്ര, ಪವಿತ್ರ) is the feminine of Sanskrit pavitra, from the root pū, "to purify". Monier-Williams gives the adjective as purifying, averting evil, pure, holy, sacred and sinless. As a noun pavitra means a means of purification, such as the strainer through which the Soma juice was poured in Vedic ritual, or the ring of sacred grass worn on the finger during worship. The spelling with -th- follows the way Kannada, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam speakers write the Sanskrit t; in the north the same name is written Pavitra.
