Sakshi meaning
Sakshi (साक्षी) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, सा, it is a Kumbh rashi name (Shatabhisha nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
An eyewitness, observer
Sakshi (साक्षी) is the nominative form of Sanskrit sākṣin, which Monier-Williams glosses as "seeing with the eyes, observing, witnessing". As a noun it is an eyewitness, and in the law books of Gautama and Manu a witness to a transaction or a dispute. In philosophy MW gives it as the self or subject, the observer, as opposed to the object and everything outside the mind, citing the Aṣṭāvakra Saṃhitā; this idea of a silent inner witness is an important one in Vedānta. Sanskrit treats sākṣin as masculine or adjectival, so its use as a girl's name is modern. Name lists give the same meaning, "witness". The wrestler Sakshi Malik, an Olympic medallist at Rio 2016, is a well-known bearer.
