Sakina meaning
Sakina (سکینہ) is a Muslim girl's name of Arabic origin.
Calmness, tranquillity, gravity; a quality inspiring reverence; also mercy
Also used to mean: peace
Sakina (سکینہ) is the Arabic sakīna, from the root s-k-n, "to be still". Lane's lexicon defines it as calmness or tranquillity, gravity and steadiness, and a quality that inspires reverence; some explain it as mercy. The word is in the Quran, which says God "sent down the sakīna into the hearts of the believers" (48:4). In India Shia families remember Sakina, a daughter of Imam Husayn, in the mourning for Karbala. Name lists give it as "tranquillity" or "peace".
