Urvija meaning
Urvija (उर्विजा) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin (modern compound). By its first sound, उ, it is a Vrishabh rashi name (Krittika nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Born of the earth (urvī 'earth' + -jā 'born')
Also used to mean: daughter of the earth, sita
Urvija (उर्विजा) joins Sanskrit urvī, "the wide one", an old word for the earth, with -jā, "born of". Monier-Williams gives urvī as "the wide earth, earth, soil" and -ja as "born or descended from", so the name means "born of the earth". It is used as a name for Sītā, who in the Rāmāyaṇa is found by King Janaka in a furrow of a ploughed field; a pond called Urvija Kund at Sitamarhi in Bihar is linked with that story. Name lists give Urvija as "daughter of the earth" or "Sita". It pairs naturally with the shorter name Urvi.
