Bhumika meaning
Bhumika (भूमिका) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, भू, it is a Dhanu rashi name (Purva Ashadha nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Earth, ground; a storey; an actor's part; a preface
Bhumika (भूमिका) is the Sanskrit bhūmikā, a word related to bhūmi, "earth". Monier-Williams gives it the senses earth or ground, a storey of a house, and a step or degree, and two further meanings from the arts: the part or character an actor plays, and the preface or introduction to a book. Those later senses are still the everyday ones in Hindi, where McGregor's dictionary gives bhūmikā as the introduction or preface to a book and as a role. Name lists give Bhumika as "earth" and sometimes "role", both of which have dictionary support. Bhoomika is another spelling.
