Chamundeshwari meaning
Chamundeshwari (चामुंडेश्वरी) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin (Kannada usage). By its first sound, चा, it is a Meen rashi name (Revati nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
The goddess Cāmuṇḍā, a form of Durgā, as sovereign
Also used to mean: Goddess Chamundi
Chamundeshwari (चामुंडेश्वरी) joins Cāmuṇḍā with īśvarī, "sovereign goddess". Monier-Williams describes Cāmuṇḍā as a form of Durga and one of the seven Mothers; in the Devi Mahatmya she slays the demons Chanda and Munda, which gives her the name. In Karnataka she is Chamundeshwari of the Chamundi Hills above Mysuru, slayer of Mahishasura, family deity of the Wodeyar kings and the focus of the Mysuru Dasara. Kannada families give the name, or the short form Chamundi, to daughters.
In Hindu tradition this is a name of Durga.
