Chandrakala meaning
Chandrakala (चंद्रकला) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.
A digit (one-sixteenth) of the moon's disc; the crescent moon
Chandrakala (चंद्रकला) joins Sanskrit candra, "moon", and kalā, "a small part". Monier-Williams gives candra-kalā as "a digit or 1/16 of the moon's disc", the sixteen parts by which the moon waxes and wanes, each personified as a goddess in the Tantras, and as the slim crescent just before or after the new moon. The crescent on Shiva's head is often called his candrakalā. Baby-name lists give the name as "crescent moon", which matches. Chandrakala is also a crescent-shaped festive sweet.
