Chanda meaning
Chanda (चंदा) is a Hindu girl's name of Hindi origin (from Sanskrit).
The moon (Hindi candā, from Sanskrit candra)
Chanda (चंदा) is the familiar Hindi word for the moon, from Sanskrit candra. Platts' Hindi dictionary records candā as "the moon", the word of lullabies such as "Chanda Mama", where the moon is Uncle Moon to every child. A few baby-name lists instead give "fierce" or Durga; that sense belongs to a different Sanskrit word, caṇḍā (चण्डा), which Monier-Williams gives as "fierce, violent, passionate" and as a name of Durga. Most families choosing Chanda mean the moon. The banker Chanda Kochhar is a well-known bearer.
