Champa meaning
Champa (चंपा) is a Hindu girl's name of Hindi origin (from Sanskrit).
The champak tree (Michelia champaca) and its fragrant yellow flower
Also used to mean: champak flower, fragrant flower
Champa (चंपा) is the Hindi name of the champak tree, Michelia champaca, and its strongly scented golden-yellow flower. Platts' Hindi dictionary records campā as this tree, from Sanskrit campaka, and lists campaī, "the colour of the champa", as a word for golden yellow. The flower is offered in worship and worn in the hair, and it is a favourite image of Indian poets. In many regions the name champa is also given to frangipani. Baby-name lists give the name as "champak flower" or "fragrant flower". Champa is also the old name of a city near Bhagalpur in Bihar.
