Ananya meaning
Ananya (अनन्या) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, अ, it is a Mesh rashi name (Krittika nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
No other, not different; not having a second, unique
Ananya (अनन्या) comes from Sanskrit an-anya, "not another", the negative prefix an- joined to anya, "other". Monier-Williams gives "no other, not different" and "not having a second, unique", and also "undistracted" and "not devoted to anyone else". That last sense is well known from the Bhagavad Gītā, where Kṛṣṇa promises to provide for those who worship him with undivided devotion, ananyāḥ (9.22). Indian name lists today give Ananya as "unique" or "without equal", which matches the dictionary. It is used mostly for girls. It should not be confused with the modern name Aanya, which sounds similar but has no dictionary source.
