Anam has two readings. Written انام, it is Arabic anām, which Lane's Lexicon explains as created beings: mankind and jinn, or every creature with a soul. It occurs in Quran 55:10, where the earth is laid out "for all beings", and Urdu dictionaries likewise give it as people, mankind or creatures. On name lists, though, Anam is nearly always glossed "blessed" or "gift of God". The name is also written انعم, which connects it with the Arabic root n-ʿ-m, whose words speak of favour and blessing, as in "those You have blessed" (anʿamta) in the Quran's opening chapter (1:7). That is a different word from anām, so the spelling a family chooses decides which meaning the name carries.
