Rafia meaning
Rafia (رفیعہ) is a Muslim girl's name of Arabic origin.
High, exalted, lofty or eminent in rank; noble, honourable
Rafia (رفیعہ) is the feminine of Arabic rafīʿ, from the root r-f-ʿ, "to raise". Lane's lexicon defines rafīʿ as high, exalted or eminent in rank, noble and honourable, and notes that the feminine takes the ending -a. The Quran calls God rafīʿ al-darajāt, "exalted in degrees" (40:15). Name lists give Rafia as "exalted" or "noble", matching the dictionary. Rafi is the matching boys' name, and Riffat comes from the same root. Rafia is used by Muslim families in India and Pakistan.
