Ammara (عمارہ) is the feminine of Ammar and comes from the Arabic root ʿ-m-r, the root of ʿumr, "life". Lane's lexicon defines ʿammāra itself as something worn on the head as a mark of leadership, a turban, cap or crown, or a fragrant plant worn by a chief, and notes that the word was used in greetings wishing a ruler long life. Name lists give Ammara as "long-lived" or "prosperous", senses that come from the wider root rather than this word. It is different from Amara, which is spelled with a single m.
