Kumudini meaning
Kumudini (कुमुदिनी) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, कु, it is a Mithun rashi name (Ardra nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
A white water-lily plant; a cluster of water-lilies
Also used to mean: lotus
Kumudini (कुमुदिनी) is Sanskrit kumudinī, formed from kumuda, the white water-lily. Apte's dictionary gives it as the water-lily plant with white flowers, and also as a cluster of lilies or a place full of them; Monier-Williams records only the collective senses. Apte's citation, from Bhavabhūti's Uttararāmacarita, likens a joy to that of the kumudinī when the moon rises, since these lilies open at night. The moon itself is called kumudinī-nāyaka or kumudinī-pati, 'lord of the water-lilies'. Name lists usually say 'lotus', a looser rendering of the same flower. The name has a graceful, classical feel and is used for girls.
