Jiya meaning
Jiya (जिया) is a Hindu girl's name of Hindi origin (from Sanskrit jīva).
Life, soul; a beloved, darling
Also used to mean: heart, sweetheart
Jiya (जिया) is a Hindi word rather than a Sanskrit one. Platts's dictionary of Urdu and Hindi records jiyā as life or soul, the same as jī, and as an affectionate word for a beloved or darling, and traces it back to Sanskrit jīva, "living being". Name lists today give "heart" or "sweetheart". Both sit close to the dictionary: Platts gives jī as life, soul, mind and heart, and the affectionate sense of jiyā is recorded in its own right. The same family of words gives the everyday Hindi verb jīnā, "to live". Jiya is also spelled Jia.
