A name of Durga; wife of the sage Yājñavalkya
Katyayani (कात्यायनी) is the feminine of Kātyāyana, "descendant of Kati", a family name of sages. Monier-Williams records it as the name of one of the two wives of the sage Yājñavalkya in the Śatapatha Brāhmaṇa, and as a name of the goddess Durgā in the Harivaṃśa and later works. Durga in her form as Katyayani is worshipped on the sixth day of Navaratri, and a well-known story makes her the daughter of the sage Katyayana. Families choose the name for this link with the goddess.
In Hindu tradition this is a name of Durga.
