Chandni meaning
Chandni (चाँदनी) is a Hindu girl's name of Hindi origin (from Sanskrit). By its first sound, चा, it is a Meen rashi name (Revati nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Moonlight, moonbeam; a white flower; anything white and shining
Chandni (चाँदनी) is the everyday Hindi word for moonlight. Platts' Hindi dictionary gives cāṅdnī as "moonlight, moonbeam" and "anything white and shining", and also as a white-flowered shrub and a white canopy spread over a gathering. It comes from cāṅd, "moon", and is the Hindi cousin of Sanskrit candrikā. Baby-name lists give the name as "moonlight", which matches. Delhi's Chandni Chowk, "moonlit square", shares the word, and Yash Chopra's 1989 film Chandni carries the name.
