Chaitra meaning
Chaitra (चैत्र) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin (Kannada usage).
The first spring month of the Hindu calendar
Chaitra (ಚೈತ್ರ, चैत्र) is the name of the spring month of the Hindu calendar, falling in March and April. Monier-Williams explains that it is named after the star Citrā, in which its full moon stands. In much of India the new year begins in Chaitra, with festivals such as Ugadi in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh and Gudi Padwa in Maharashtra, and Ram Navami falls in the same month. Although the Sanskrit month name is masculine, in Karnataka Chaitra is mostly a girls' name; Chaithra is an alternative spelling.
