Chennamma meaning
Chennamma (चेन्नम्मा) is a Hindu girl's name of Kannada origin. By its first sound, चे, it is a Mesh rashi name (Ashwini nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Beautiful lady; cenna 'beauty' with amma 'mother, lady'
Chennamma (चेन्नम्मा, Kannada ಚೆನ್ನಮ್ಮ) joins Kannada cenna, "beauty, a person of beauty", with amma, which Kittel gives as "mother" and as a respectful title added to women's names. It means roughly "beautiful lady". The name is forever linked with Rani Chennamma of Kittur, who in 1824 led an armed revolt against the East India Company, decades before 1857, and is honoured across Karnataka. It is also the name of Keladi Chennamma, the 17th-century queen of Keladi.
