Bhupali (भूपाली) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin (Marathi usage). By its first sound, भू, it is a Dhanu rashi name (Purva Ashadha nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
A particular scale (raga) in Indian music
Also used to mean: a raga
Bhupali (भूपाली) is the name of a raga. Monier-Williams records bhūpālī as a particular scale in Indian music, the feminine of bhūpāla, "guardian of the earth" or king. Raga Bhupali, also called Bhoop, is a five-note evening raga of the Kalyan family, one of the first ragas taught to students of Hindustani music. Marathi also has bhupali songs, sung at dawn to wake the god in the temple. Name lists simply give "a raga". Like Asavari, Bhairavi and Malhar, it is one of several raga names that Marathi families give to children.
