Bhumi meaning
Bhumi (भूमि) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, भू, it is a Dhanu rashi name (Purva Ashadha nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
The earth, soil, ground; a territory or place
Bhumi (भूमि) is the Sanskrit bhūmi, "the earth, soil, ground", a word found from the Vedas onward. Monier-Williams lists further senses that grow from it: a country or territory, a place, a storey of a house, and a step or degree. The earth itself is revered as the goddess Bhūmi, also called Bhūdevī. In Vaiṣṇava temples she stands with Śrī as one of the two consorts of Viṣṇu, and in the story of his boar incarnation, Varāha, Viṣṇu rescues her from the demon Hiraṇyākṣa and lifts her on his tusk. The word is still current in Hindi and other Indian languages for land and soil. Name lists give Bhumi as "earth", in line with the dictionary; Bhoomi is an alternative spelling.
