Meghana (मेघना) is a modern name built on Sanskrit megha, which Monier-Williams gives as a cloud, cloudy weather, a mass or multitude, and the name of a musical rāga. The full form meghanā is not in the dictionaries, but name lists agree on cloud or rain cloud, which follows the root. In India, where the monsoon cloud brings relief and plenty, megha is a warm image, as in Kalidasa's poem Meghaduta, "the cloud messenger". Meghana is the usual spelling in South India and Meghna in the North; Meghna is also a great river of Bangladesh.
