Ira meaning
Ira (इरा) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.
A draught, food, refreshment; water; the earth; speech; Sarasvati
Also used to mean: saraswati
Ira (इरा) is Sanskrit irā, a word Monier-Williams links closely with iḍā. In the Rigveda and other early texts it means a drink, especially of milk, and so food, refreshment, comfort and enjoyment. The later lexicons add water, the earth, speech and Sarasvatī, goddess of speech, and those are the senses most name lists give today. In the Harivaṃśa and the Viṣṇu Purāṇa Irā is also an Apsaras, a daughter of Dakṣa and wife of the sage Kaśyapa. The name is short and easy to spell in any script, but it is unrelated to the Hebrew boys' name Ira, which comes from a different language.
In Hindu tradition this is a name of Saraswati.
