Avanti meaning
Avanti (अवंती) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, अ, it is a Mesh rashi name (Krittika nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
The ancient city of Ujjain; its queen
Also used to mean: modest
Avanti (अवंती) is the old name of Ujjain, the sacred city on the Kshipra river in Madhya Pradesh. Monier-Williams records avantī as the city and as its queen. Avanti was also one of the great kingdoms of ancient India, with Ujjain as its capital, and the city is counted among the seven sacred cities of Hinduism. Name lists give "Ujjain" and sometimes "modest", a sense we could not find in the dictionary. Avanti is the shorter sister of the name Avantika.
