Lajja meaning
Lajja (लज्जा) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin (Gujarati and Marathi usage).
Modesty, bashfulness; shame
Lajja (लज्जा) is the Sanskrit word for modesty and bashfulness, from the verb lajj, "to be ashamed or shy". Monier-Williams gives shame, modesty and embarrassment as its senses, and notes that Lajjā is personified as the wife of Dharma and the mother of Vinaya, good conduct. The same word names the touch-me-not plant, whose leaves fold when touched. In Indian art, Lajja Gauri is a lotus-headed mother goddess known from early temple sculpture. As a girls' name, Lajja is found mostly in Gujarati and Marathi families.
