Gandhali (गंधाली) is a Marathi girls' name that families give as "fragrance". Its first part is plainly Sanskrit gandha, "smell" or "scent". The full word, however, means something else in Monier-Williams, which records gandhālī from the old word lists as a wasp and as the creeper Paederia foetida, a plant known for its strong smell. We could not find gandhali meaning "fragrance" in the dictionaries we use, so that sense appears to be a modern one built from gandha rather than the word's recorded meaning. The name is used mainly in Maharashtra.
