Ulka meaning
Ulka (उल्का) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin (Marathi usage). By its first sound, उ, it is a Vrishabh rashi name (Krittika nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
A meteor, fire falling from the sky; a torch
Ulka (उल्का) is the Sanskrit ulkā, which Monier-Williams gives as "a fiery phenomenon in the sky, a meteor, fire falling from heaven", a word found from the Rigveda on, and also as "a firebrand, a torch". It is still the ordinary Hindi and Marathi word for a meteor or shooting star. Name lists give Ulka as "meteor", which matches the dictionary. The name is used especially in Maharashtra. The same spelling also exists as an unrelated European pet form of Ulrica.
