Urvi meaning
Urvi (उर्वी) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, उ, it is a Vrishabh rashi name (Krittika nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
The wide one; the earth
Urvi (उर्वी) is Sanskrit urvī, the feminine of uru, "wide, broad, spacious, great", an adjective that Monier-Williams compares with Greek eurys, "wide". Used as a noun, urvī means "the wide one", that is, the wide earth, and MW cites it from the Ṛgveda, Kālidāsa's Śakuntalā and Manu. In the dual the Ṛgveda uses it for heaven and earth together, the two wide worlds, and in the plural for the six spaces: the four quarters with the regions above and below. Indian name lists give Urvi as "earth", which matches the dictionary. It is a short girl's name with a Vedic pedigree, used across India.
