Mithila meaning
Mithila (मिथिला) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.
The city of King Janaka, capital of Videha
Also used to mean: kingdom of Janaka, Sita's birthplace
Mithila (मिथिला) is the name of the ancient city and kingdom of Videha. Monier-Williams records Mithilā as a city said to have been founded by King Mithi, the capital of Videha, today's Tirhut in north Bihar, and the home of King Janaka, the father of Sita. It is also the name of a school of law. Name lists give the kingdom of Janaka or Sita's birthplace. The region gives its name to Madhubani or Mithila painting and to the Maithili language. Families choose it for its Ramayana link, and Maithili, "of Mithila", is the related name for Sita.
