Dharitri meaning
Dharitri (धरित्री) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.
A female bearer or supporter; the earth
Also used to mean: mother earth
Dharitri (धरित्री) is the Sanskrit dharitrī, a feminine noun from the verb dhṛ, "to hold, bear, support". Monier-Williams gives its first sense as a female bearer or supporter, found in the Yajurveda, and its later and commoner sense as the earth, the one who supports all living things. The everyday Hindi word dhartī, "earth, land", comes from it. Name lists give "earth" or "mother earth", and some link it with the earth goddess Bhūdevī. It is used in Odisha and Bengal, and is also the title of a well-known Odia newspaper.
