Dharini meaning
Dharini (धारिणी) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, धा, it is a Dhanu rashi name (Purva Ashadha nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
The earth; one who holds or bears
Dharini (धारिणी) is Sanskrit dhāriṇī, the feminine of dhārin, "holding, bearing, maintaining". Monier-Williams gives it as a name for the earth, the one who holds everything up, and lists several women called Dhāriṇī: a daughter of Svadhā in the Bhāgavata Purāṇa, a Jain deity, and the queen of King Agnimitra in Kālidāsa's play Mālavikāgnimitra. In the Vahni Purāṇa the plural is a collective name for the seventy-four wives of the gods. Baby-name lists translate Dharini as "earth" or "she who sustains", which matches the dictionary. The name keeps the long "aa" of the Sanskrit in the first syllable, which separates it from the similar-looking Dharani.
