Sita meaning
Sita (सीता) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, सी, it is a Kumbh rashi name (Shatabhisha nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
A furrow; daughter of Janaka and wife of Rama
Sita (सीता) is the Sanskrit sītā, "a furrow", the line cut by a ploughshare. In the Rig Veda Sītā is invoked as a goddess of the furrow and of the fruits of the earth. In the epic she is the daughter of Janaka, king of Mithilā in Videha, and the wife of Rāma. Janaka is said to have found her in a furrow while ploughing ground for a sacrifice, which explains both her name and the epithet ayonijā, "not born from a womb". From her homeland come her other names, Maithilī and Vaidehī, and later tradition regards her as an incarnation of Lakṣmī. Name lists give the same meaning, and Seetha is a South Indian spelling.
