Mrudgandha meaning
Mrudgandha (मृद्गंधा) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin (modern Marathi usage).
Scent of the earth (mṛd 'earth, soil' + gandha 'smell, fragrance')
Mrudgandha (मृद्गंधा) is a modern Marathi girls' name meaning "the scent of the earth". It joins Sanskrit mṛd, which Monier-Williams gives as earth, soil or clay, to gandha, "smell" or "fragrance". In Marathi poems and songs mṛdgandh is the word for the smell that rises from dry soil at the first monsoon shower, the scent English calls petrichor, and the name carries that picture of the first rain. The compound is not in the older dictionaries we use, so the meaning comes from its two parts. The -ru- spelling is the Marathi way of writing the Sanskrit vowel ṛ.
