Kimaya (किमया) is a Marathi word. Molesworth's 1857 Marathi dictionary defines kimayā as alchemy, the art of turning base metals into gold, and figuratively as anything that yields wonderfully, a golden goose; kimayāgār is an alchemist. In modern Marathi the word is used for magic or a marvellous effect, which is why name lists give "miracle" or "magic", and some "divine". The word is related to the Persian and Arabic kīmiyā, "alchemy", rather than to Sanskrit. It is a modern name, used mainly in Maharashtra.
