Ovee meaning
Ovee (ओवी) is a Hindu girl's name of Marathi origin. By its first sound, ओ, it is a Vrishabh rashi name (Rohini nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
A Marathi verse metre; a folk song women sing while grinding
Also used to mean: sacred hymn
Ovee (ओवी) is a Marathi word for a verse. Molesworth's Marathi dictionary defines ovī as a stanza in a particular metre and as the light folk song that women sing while grinding grain or rocking a child to sleep. The ovi metre carries some of the best-loved works of Marathi literature: Dnyaneshwar's Dnyaneshwari and Amrutanubhav are composed in it, and its rhythm is thought to echo those grinding songs. Name lists give Ovee as "a sacred hymn" or "a Marathi verse", in line with the dictionary. Ovi is another spelling.
