Gatha meaning
Gatha (गाथा) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, गा, it is a Makar rashi name (Dhanishta nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
A verse or stanza, especially from epic or legend
Gatha (गाथा) is Sanskrit gāthā, "a verse or stanza", in particular one that is not part of the Vedic hymns, chants or sacrificial formulas but belongs to epic legend; Monier-Williams cites the story of Śunaḥśepa as an example and traces the word back to the Atharvaveda and the Brāhmaṇas. The related masculine gātha already means "a song" in the Ṛgveda. In Buddhist literature a gāthā is the verse portion of a sūtra, and the word is also the name of the Āryā metre. Baby-name lists give "song" or "verse", which matches the dictionary. Gatha comes from the same root as Geeta, "song".
