Payel meaning
Payel (पायेल) is a Hindu girl's name of Hindi origin (Bengali usage). By its first sound, पा, it is a Kanya rashi name (Uttara Phalguni nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
An anklet of gold or silver
Payel (পায়েল) is the Bengali way of writing pāyal, the anklet of silver or gold worn by Indian women, often hung with small bells that chime as the wearer walks. Platts' dictionary traces the word to Sanskrit pāda, "foot", with a small suffix, so it is literally the foot ornament. Elsewhere in India the same name is spelled Payal; the Payel spelling is distinctively Bengali. It is a girls' name used mainly in West Bengal, and well-known bearers include the Bengali film actress Payel Sarkar.
