Shatabdi meaning
Shatabdi (शताब्दी) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin (Bengali usage).
A century, a hundred years
Shatabdi (शताब्दी) means "a century". It is built from Sanskrit śata, "hundred", and abda, "year"; Monier-Williams gives śatābda as a hundred years or a life of a hundred years, and the Samsad Bengali dictionary gives śatābdī simply as "a century". As a name it carries the old blessing of a long life of a hundred years. It is used mainly for girls in Bengal, where it is often spelled Satabdi, as for the actress and politician Satabdi Roy. Elsewhere in India the word is best known from the Shatabdi Express trains, named in 1988 for Jawaharlal Nehru's birth centenary.
