Ashima meaning
Ashima (अशिमा) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin (Bengali pronunciation). By its first sound, अ, it is a Mesh rashi name (Krittika nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Boundless, limitless
Ashima (अशिमा) is usually explained as Sanskrit asīmā, the feminine of asīma, "boundless". Monier-Williams records a-sīman, made of the negative a- and sīman, "boundary", as without limit or boundless, and lists asīma as another form of the same word. Name lists agree, giving "limitless" or "endless". The spelling with sh rather than s matches Bengali pronunciation, in which the Sanskrit s is usually said as sh, and the same name is often written Asima. Hindi spellings vary between अशिमा and असीमा. Some sites link the name to Lakshmi; we found no source for that.
