Sharmistha meaning
Sharmistha (शर्मिष्ठा) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.
'most fortunate'; name of a wife of Yayāti, daughter of Vṛṣaparvan
Sharmistha (शर्मिष्ठा) is the Sanskrit śarmiṣṭhā, which Monier-Williams glosses as "most fortunate", a superlative related to śarman, "joy, happiness". Its bearer in the Mahābhārata is Śarmiṣṭhā, daughter of the Asura king Vṛṣaparvan. After a quarrel with Devayānī, daughter of the sage Śukra, she was made Devayānī's attendant, and later became a wife of King Yayāti and mother of Druhyu, Anu and Pūru, ancestor of the Pauravas. Name lists give "most fortunate", the dictionary gloss. The name is used in Bengal and Odisha, where it is often spelled Sarmistha.
