Shakira meaning
Shakira (شاکرہ) is a Muslim girl's name of Arabic origin.
One who gives thanks and praise; grateful
Also used to mean: thankful
Shakira (شاکرہ) is the feminine of Arabic shākir, from shakara, "to be thankful". Lane's lexicon gives shakara as to thank or be grateful, with shukr, thanks, as its noun, and Steingass's Persian dictionary, which records the Arabic word as used in Persian, gives shākir as one who praises or gives thanks, also resigned, and lists it among the names of God. The Quran calls Abraham shākir, thankful for God's blessings (16:121). Name lists give Shakira as "grateful" or "thankful". The Colombian singer Shakira, of Lebanese descent on her father's side, made the name known worldwide.
