Shaila meaning
Shaila (शैला) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.
Rocky, made of stone; a rock, hill, mountain
Also used to mean: daughter of the mountain
Shaila (शैला) comes from Sanskrit śaila, formed from śilā, "stone". Monier-Williams gives the adjective as made of stone, rocky or stone-like, and the masculine noun as a rock, crag, hill or mountain; the seven great mythical mountain ranges are called the śailas. The feminine śailā appears in the dictionary only as the name of a Buddhist nun, so Shaila as a girl's name is best read as "of the mountain". It is also used as a short form of Shailaja, "daughter of the mountain", a name of Pārvatī. Name lists give "mountain" or "rock". The name is used in Maharashtra, Karnataka and Gujarat.
