Srilatha (श्रीलता) is built from śrī, "beauty, prosperity, good fortune", and latā, "a creeper or vine", a word Sanskrit poets also use for a slender, graceful woman. Monier-Williams records śrīlatā only as the name of a particular plant. Name lists read the parts instead and explain Srilatha as "graceful" or "an auspicious creeper", a fair reading of the compound but not one the dictionary gives. The spelling with -tha is South Indian, especially Telugu and Kannada; Srilata is used in the north and in Bengal.
