Kulsum meaning
Kulsum (کلثوم) is a Muslim girl's name of Arabic origin.
Full-cheeked, with a full and fleshy face
Also used to mean: healthy, beautiful
Kulsum is how Urdu speakers say the Arabic name Kulthūm, best known through Umm Kulthūm. Steingass's dictionary, which lists the Arabic word as used in Persian, defines kulthūm as full of flesh about the face and cheeks, a round, full face; it also gives the unrelated senses of an elephant and of the silk pennant on a standard. Baby-name lists give 'full-cheeked', 'healthy' or 'beautiful'. The name's fame comes from Umm Kulthūm, a daughter of the Prophet Muhammad and Khadīja, who married ʿUthmān and died in 630, and in modern times from the Egyptian singer Umm Kulthum. In South Asia Kulsum, or Kulsoom, is used on its own.
