Farida meaning

Farida (فریدہ) is a Muslim girl's name of Arabic origin (Urdu usage).

Unique, matchless; a precious pearl or gem, as if the only one

Farida (فریدہ) is the feminine of Arabic farīd, from the root f-r-d, "to be single, alone". Lane's lexicon explains farīd as a precious gem, named as though it were the only one of its kind, and as the larger pearls strung apart from the rest of a necklace; farīda is one such pearl. From this comes the sense "unique, matchless". Name lists give Farida as "unique" or "precious", in line with the dictionary. Well-known bearers include the actress Farida Jalal and the ghazal singer Farida Khanum.
