Falak meaning
Falak (فلک) is a Muslim girl's name of Arabic origin (Urdu usage).
The celestial sphere, the vault of heaven; the sky
Also used to mean: star
Falak (فلک) is the Arabic falak, from the root f-l-k. Lane's lexicon defines it as the place where the stars revolve: the celestial sphere, imagined as a vault over the earth, with the old astronomers' seven spheres for the moon, sun and planets. The Quran says the sun and moon each "swim along in an orbit" (21:33). In Urdu falak is a common poetic word for the sky or the heavens. Name lists give it as "sky" or "heaven". It is a different word from falaq, "daybreak", of Surah al-Falaq, though the two sound alike.
